Scoreboard operators were busy at Farley on Tuesday as St. John Paul II and St. Francis combined for 39 runs. St. John Paul II eventually won the offensive battle 30-9 in seven innings.
The teams totaled 64 hits, including seven extra base hits in the game.
Sixteen runs in the opening three innings allowed St. John Paul II to easily put away St. Francis. An RBI single by Peter Costello, an RBI triple by Robert Stratton, an RBI single by Bryan Healey, an RBI single by Steve Spoljaric, an RBI single by Paul Leso, an RBI single by Floyd Roberts, a fielder's choice, and an RBI single by Joe McEvoy during the first inning and a two-run home run by Peter Costello, an RBI single by Healey, a two-run single by R Mckeon, an RBI single by Leso, a sacrifice fly by Roberts, and an RBI single by Karl Grossman in the second inning fueled St. John Paul II's offense early.
St. John Paul II starter Spoljaric struggled, allowing nine in six innings, but the bullpen let up no runs and the offense banged out 44 to pick up the slack and secure the win for St. John Paul II.
Healey racked up six RBIs on five hits for St. John Paul II.
St. John Paul II easily handled St. Francis pitching as 11 hitters combined for 39 hits, 28 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
Howard Bialos was charged with the loss. He allowed 30 runs in seven innings, walked none and struck out one.
Four first-inning runs helped St. Maximilian to a 9-7 win over St. Vincent at Esposito on Tuesday.
St. Maximilian scored in the first on an RBI single by Rich Pitonzo, a two-run double by Francis, and an RBI single by Russ Lomuscio.
St. Maximilian staved off St. Vincent as St. Vincent was unable to match St. Maximilian down the stretch.
St. Vincent scored on an RBI single by John Junguenet in the fourth inning and a two-run double by Junguenet, a sacrifice fly by Gerardo Riepe, and a groundout by Brian Pyluck in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, St. Vincent wasn't able to take the lead back.
Rich Pitonzo racked up three RBIs on three hits for St. Maximilian.
Junguenet racked up three RBIs on three hits for St. Vincent.
First-Inning Rally Sparks Win For St. Joseph, 20-6
A 13-run explosion in the first inning lifted St. Joseph to a 20-6 win in seven innings over St. Francis at Forest Rd on Thursday.
Barba racked up four RBIs on two hits for St. Joseph.
Michael Surbrug racked up two RBIs on three hits for St. Francis. He homered in the second inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.
St. Joseph easily handled St. Francis pitching as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Bill Scheiner lasted one inning on the rubber for St. Francis before the call to the bullpen. Scheiner gave up nine hits and 16 runs.
