After 10 lead changes in Monday's game at Brookside, St. Maximilian finally pulled out a 8-6 win over St. John Paul II.
St. Maximilian finally managed to grab the lead after a strong eighth inning. An error scored Rich Pitonzo and gave St. Maximilian the lead for good.
Stephen Mavrakes was solid at the plate for St. Maximilian. Mavrakes went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third inning and tripled in the seventh inning.
John Deitch was a workhorse on the rubber for St. Maximilian. Deitch allowed three earned runs, seven hits and no walks while striking out one over nine innings of work.
Robert Stratton had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and eighth innings.
The top of the first saw St. John Paul II take an early lead, 1-0. Thomas Ulichny singled to ignite St. John Paul II's offense.
St. Maximilian brought home two runs in the second inning, and matched that run total in the seventh. In the second, St. Maximilian scored on an RBI single by Russ Lomuscio, plating Jason Semple.
St. Maximilian went up for the duration of the game after the eighth inning. Additional runs came from a groundout by Francis Vecchione and an RBI single by Russell Voorhees.
